The one who nearly crashed
in a helicopter with Donald Trump told POLITICO Trump mistook him for previous
San Francisco City chairman Willie Brown — notwithstanding the previous
president's rehashed demand it was Brown.
It was Nate Holden, a
previous city councilmember and state congressperson from Los Angeles, who said
in a selective meeting late Friday that he recalls the brush with death well.
He and others accept it happened at some point in 1990.
"Willie is the short
Person of color living in San Francisco," Holden said. "I'm a tall
Person of color living in Los Angeles."
"I surmise we as a
whole copy," Holden told POLITICO, letting out an uproarious chuckle.
Holden, who is 95 years of age,
was in contact with Trump and his group during the 1990s when the ostentatious
Manhattan designer was attempting to expand on the site of the notable Envoy
Inn in Los Angeles. Holden addressed the locale at that point and upheld the
undertaking.
In the meeting, Holden said
he was watching Trump's question and answer session on Thursday when the
previous president guaranteed that Brown was on board during the white-knuckle
helicopter ride.
As a matter of fact, Holden
says he met Trump at Trump Pinnacle, on the way to Atlantic City, New Jersey,
where they planned to visit the designer's pristine Taj Mahal club. In the
anteroom at Trump Pinnacle, Holden says he was welcomed by a few group as
"congressperson," greetings that annoyed the host.
"He said, 'You realize
I own this structure however no one appears to know who I'm,'" Holden
recalled the tycoon saying.
Holden was a piece stressed
over the helicopter ride since it came not long after five individuals,
including three undeniable level leaders of Trump's club, were killed when
their chopper crashed in
Yet, Holden says Trump let
him know they were well taken care of, noticing that he had two able pilots.
"He tells me to 'take a gander at the sky,'" Holden said. "'Good
gracious, it's so gorgeous.'"
Likewise on board was
Trump's late sibling, Robert, the lawyer Harvey Freedman and Barbara Res,
Trump's previous chief VP of development and improvement. Res told POLITICO on
Friday that she likewise recalls the ride well. Truth be told, she said she
expounded on it in her book, "In isolation on the 68th Floor."
Res recalls Brown, as well.
He started to appreciate her, and she presented to him a cap from the
superyacht the Trump Princess, which she says he cherished. However, the man on
the helicopter was certainly Nate Holden, she said.
On that ride, she said the
pilots began hotly moving the hardware as the chopper reeled over the water.
"From the edge of my eye, I can find in the cockpit and what I see is the
co-pilot siphoning a gadget energetically," Res wrote in her book. Donald
Trump and Robert Trump were consoling Holden.
"Presently the pilot
let us in on he had lost a few instruments and we would have to make a crisis
arrival," she composed. "At this point, the helicopter was shaking
like there's no tomorrow."
After impressive
choppiness, they landed securely in New Jersey at an air terminal where Trump
had his worker helicopters put away.
In the span of 60 minutes,
they were in Atlantic City. Holden and Res had a pleasant lunch at the gambling
club kindness of Trump and returned to New York. "We might not have
finished a lot of business, yet it certain as damnation was essential,"
she composed.
Via telephone Friday, Res
said Trump jumped at the chance to make a wisecrack about Holden on the helicopter
— "you became white," he said. However, she said it was Trump's face
that was white.
"He was very
white," Holden added. "Furthermore, he was terrified shitless."
When requested remark, a
Trump crusade representative just alluded to a passage in a New York Times
article about the episode.
"[Trump] has likewise
recounted the helicopter story previously, in his 2023 book, 'Letters to Best,'
in which he distributed letters to him from various individuals, including Mr.
Brown. In the book, Mr. Trump composed, 'We really had a crisis arrival in a
helicopter together. It was somewhat unnerving for the two of us, yet
fortunately we made it.'"
Res and Holden talked on
the telephone Friday night. They at times think back about the Representative
venture that might have been.
"That is the story,
alright," Res said. "No Willie Brown."
Holden likewise associated
with Brown on Thursday. "I said, 'Willie, were you practically in a
helicopter crash with Trump likewise?' He said 'No.' I said, 'I was the one,
Willie.'"
Before he hung up with
POLITICO, Holden guaranteed a correspondent that no one examined — not to
mention condemned — Kamala Harris as Trump guaranteed Brown did.
"He either stirred it
up," Holden said. "Or then again, he made it up. This was simply too
enormous to even think about disregarding. This is a major one. Conflating
Willie Brown and me? The press is looking for the genuine story and they didn't
get it. You did indeed."
